On an autumn night in 2026, Sujecheon and ballet will once again meet at Gyeongbokgung Palace, continuing the legacy of today's classics. 

* K-Arts Ballet and Korean traditional music masters present a fusion stage of East and West classics (performance time 70 minutes)

The performance will take place at Jibokjae, a space King Gojong used as a study. Its name means 'collecting precious treasures like jade.' Built in 1891, it served as King Gojong's study and office, where he received foreign envoys.

The royal court music of the Joseon Dynasty, Sujecheon (壽齊天), returns to Gyeongbokgung Palace in a unique harmony with Western ballet, set against the backdrop of Jibokjae. Ballerinas soaring gracefully to the melodies of court musicians dressed in red will create an unforgettable autumn night at the palace.

Program

1. Act One: Ballet Jeongjae (Classical Ballet)Jeongjae refers to traditional Korean court dance. In this act, Sujecheon, often described as the “music of heaven,” meets classical ballet to present Ballet Jeongjae, a contemporary reinterpretation of Korean court dance for the 21st century.

2. Act Two: Ballet Fantasy (Romantic Ballet)The fantasy world of romantic ballet is reimagined through traditional Korean music. As the melody of Taepyeongga fills the stage, fairies from Bugaksan appear in dance, followed by the powerful sounds of pansori. The scene then shifts to a playful goblin dance set to Chimhyangmu, an enchanting masterpiece for the gayageum.

3. Act Three: Ballebinari (Contemporary Ballet)Suryongeum leads the audience from the fantasy world into the grand finale. The vibrant rhythms of samulnori meet the dynamic energy of contemporary ballet, culminating in binari, a traditional expression of blessings and gratitude for the audience.

The royal court music of Joseon, Sujecheon (壽齊天), will once again be performed in harmony with Western court dance, ballet, in front of Jibokjae at Gyeongbokgung Palace. The sight of ballerinas soaring gracefully over the melodies of court musicians in red robes will create an unforgettable autumn night at the palace.
